MONTICELLO UNVEILED STUDIOEIS’ NEW THOMAS JEFFERSON SCULPTURE ON APRIL 15, 2009
More than a year in the making, this bronze sculpture was unveiled in conjunction with the opening of the new Smith Education Center and Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center at Monticello, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The life-sized bronze sculpture, a very naturalistic rendition of Jefferson in retirement at the age of 68, is meticulously rendered from measurements taken from Jefferson’s clothing. This sculpture by StudioEIS is a valuable new addition to a substantial repertoire of images of Jefferson. This new portrait of Jefferson does, however, put a new face on America’s third president.

Leslie Bowman, President and CEO of Monticello, Michael Beschloss, presidential historian and Annette Gordon-Reed, historian, and author of The Hemingses of Monticello helped dedicate the new sculpture and Education Center.

OTHER NEW WORKS TO BE UNVEILED IN 2009

Next week, a new sculpture of one of the
Tuskegee Airmen by StudioEIS will be dedicated at York College in Queens, New York. A new sculpture of James and Dolley Madison will be unveiled on May 27th at Montpelier, the home of James Madison in Orange Virginia. On November 19th, a new sculpture of Abraham Lincoln will be dedicated on the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address at the National Military Park and Visitor Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
